Romijn & O'Connell welcome twin girls
Hollywood couple REBECCA ROMIJN and JERRY O'CONNELL are celebrating after the UGLY BETTY star gave birth to twin girls last week (ends02Jan09).
The baby news was broken by the couple's close pal, DJ Howard Stern, on his Sirius radio show on Monday (05Jan08) morning, and Romijn's publicist Lewis Kay has confirmed the news to People.com.
Kay says, "Mother, father and both girls are all home and doing well."
Romijn, who was previously married to E.R. actor John Stamos, wed O'Connell in 2007 and the baby girls, named Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip, are the couple's first children together. They were born on 28 December (08).
And funnyman O'Connell has already revealed plans to be a strict parent to his kids, recently joking, "Just the fact that they're girls, you know? I don't want them to date. They're only allowed to date men who run countries. They're only allowed to date men who are heir to the throne or are currently running a nation."
Arquette files for divorce
Patricia Arquette has filed for divorce, putting an end to her two-year marriage to The Punisher star Thomas Jane.
The actress cites "irreconcilable differences" for the split.
She filed papers in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday (05Jan08).
The couple, who wed in June, 2006, have a five-year-old daughter together, called Harlow.
Both have been married before - Arquette was wed to Nicolas Cage, while Jane was briefly married to Rutger Hauer's daughter Aysha in the late 1990s.
He was also engaged to actress Olivia d'Abo.
Arquette has hired top divorce lawyer Laura Wasser to represent her, according to website TMZ.com.
Gyllenhaal/Witherspoon's big screen kiss
Jake Gyllenhaal went very public with his feelings for girlfriend Reese Witherspoon on Sunday night (04Jan09) when he planted a kiss on the actress during a Los Angeles Lakers game.
And it wasn't just a sneaky smooch - the couple's lingering lip lock was caught on the Staples Center's jumbotron screen, which hangs above the court.
The passionate moment during the Portland Trailblazers game came during a traditional time-out segment of the game, when fans are encouraged to kiss each other on camera.
Witherspoon appeared to be more than a little embarrassed when she realized the kiss had been caught on camera and everyone in the arena had seen it.
Hudson gives red carpet condolences to Travolta
Actress Kate Hudson took time out of promoting her latest film to offer her condolences to John Travolta and Kelly Preston after the tragic death of their son Jett.
The star was walking the red carpet at the New York premiere of her latest movie Bride Wars with Anne Hathaway on Monday (05Jan09) when she approached reporters to offer a message of support to the grieving parents.
Teenager Jett Travolta died from a seizure at the family's Bahamas holiday home on Friday (02Jan09) and tributes from celebrities including Tom Cruise and Oprah Winfrey have been pouring in over the weekend (03/04Jan09).
And Hudson also offered the Travoltas her sympathy for their loss.
She told ETOnline.com, "My blessings go out to that family. You can't even... They're going to go through such a difficult time... I wish the family my blessings and prayers."
Jackman's brother-in-law banned from body double role
Hugh Jackman's sister has banned the star from using her husband as a body double in movies - because he has broken too many bones.
The Australia star's brother-in-law has stepped in for Jackman during filming of dangerous stunts, including on 2004 action movie Van Helsing - where his stand-in suffered a broken leg.
Jackman says, "My brother-in-law has doubled for me on a few of my movies. It's a weird situation, though, because sometimes things can go wrong.
"One time on Van Helsing he was doubling for me in a scene where I got really thrown about. He ended up breaking his leg and I had to phone my sister to explain and say I was sending him home.
"He's cracked his wrist and nose, too. She is not best pleased."
Lohan slams Ronson split reports
Lindsay Lohan has lashed out at reporters who insist she has split from DJ girlfriend Samantha Ronson - urging them to get their "stories straight".
Speculation suggesting the Mean Girls actress had broke up with her lesbian lover reached fever pitch on Monday (05Jan09) after TV news show Access Hollywood claimed the star had moved out of the home she shared with Ronson.
The reports followed a series of rows between the pair in recent weeks, with some gossip sites stating the star was looking to set up home with her little sister Ali in Los Angeles.
But Lohan has slammed the rumors - insisting she is sick of having to tell pals to ignore stories about her love-life.
She writes on her MySpace blog, "RUMORS. little piece of TRUE information: we did NOT break up!
"Access hollywood, extra, et, every tabloid, page six… AND every GOSSIP website. Get your stories straight please. It's really annoying to have all of your friends emailing you saying, i saw, i read, etc… NOT TRUE."
Paltrow detoxes to lose holiday weight
Gwyneth Paltrow has called on medical help as she aims to lose a little winter weight in the New Year.
The actress admits she has gained a little "holiday excess" and now is keen to lose it - but she refuses to have a crack at the infamous Master Cleanse fast which she tried a year ago (08).
She says, "I like to do fasts and detoxes a couple of times during the year, the most hardcore one being the Master Cleanse I did last spring. It was not what you would characterize as pretty. Or easy.”
So now Paltrow has signed up a detox diet specialist to help her shed the pounds.
In a blog on Goop.com, she writes, "As I do not wish to subsist on lemon water in the middle of winter, I asked my doctor, a detox diet specialist, for the guidelines he uses to achieve a good detox that is not as hallucinogenic (in a bad way) as the Master Cleanse.
"What it came down to was this: you can detox easily and effectively while you continue to eat as long as you are cutting out the foods and other substances that interfere with the detoxification process.”
She admits her New Year diet consists mainly of salads, fruit smoothies, chicken, soups and lots of water.
Rourke blocked out boxing background for The Wrestler
Movie hardman Mickey Rourke was forced to forget his fighting background for new movie The Wrestler, because he found his skills as a former professional boxer were more of a hindrance than a help.
The 52-year-old star has made a triumphant return to the big screen after more than a decade in the Hollywood wilderness following a string of well-documented run-ins with the law, and a failed foray into professional boxing.
But he struggled to get to grips with his role as has-been grappler Randy 'The Ram' Robinson in the film, because wrestlers aren't as "graceful" as boxers.
He says, "It got in the way because wrestlers don't move like fighters, and fighters don't move like wrestlers - it was really more like I had to get my mindset out of that.
"In boxing, you move very gracefully. These guys move very hulkingly and you can read their punches."
Love Hewitt calls off engagement
Jennifer Love Hewitt and her fiance Ross Mccall have split, according to reports.
Sources tell People magazine the couple broke up over Christmas (08) and have ended their engagement.
An insider says, "They're both really sad about this. Even their friends are surprised; they seemed really happy. Everyone just wants the best for both of them."
Love Hewitt, 29, got engaged to the Scottish actor, 32, in November 2007 after they dated for two years.
The first signs their romance was in trouble came in September (08) when the actress was snapped sobbing as McCall packed luggage into the back of a vehicle outside her home.
Mendes takes mom back to old cinema
Actress Eva Mendes served up a special treat to her mother at the premiere of her latest film The Spirit - because it was at the cinema where she once worked.
The sexy Latina invited 15 members of her family to the screening at Hollywood's Mann's Chinese Theater last month (Dec08) - and she admits her mother was as excited about the location as the film itself.
She explains, "My mother worked there on weekends... like, in the '80s when they wore these long, beautiful geisha gowns, and I would go with her.
"She worked at the gift shop and sometimes she'd work in the theater.
"So taking her back the other night to where she used to be an employee, and taking her as my mother, my date... she's very proud."
